Project Description

Following a fire in 1992, Leatham-Krohn-Van Ocker, Architects was retained to provide architectural services for the interior reconstruction of the fire damaged portion of the building. The work consisted of demolition of fire damaged building elements; determination of salvageable and restorable items; and the reconstruction and restoration of the Attorney General Suite and Legislative Budget Offices. Work included finding replacement marble paneling and moldings; cleaning and grinding of marble found to be salvageable; replication of fire damaged and destroyed mahogany woodwork, and restoration and reconstruction of decorative plaster work. Although the Central Rotunda area was not physically damaged by the fire, the space was soiled by smoke and soot. Work in this area consisted of scaffolding the space with 130’ high scaffolding, cleaning the walls and detail work, and repainting plaster surfaces.
